Each section incfudes a summary of the <br /> issue,a set af recommended strategies and tools for monitoring gaals and indicators. <br /> Building Carnmunity <br /> Focusing an buildi�g cammunity whife achieving cl9mate protectian is the basis upon which <br /> Redwood City's Community Cfimate Action Plan was.created. Redwood City's commitment to <br /> cammunity building,including a facus on education,engagement and empawerment are woven <br /> throughout the plan.Specific strategies in this section include: <br /> • Empower Redwood City residents to take actian to address climate change and <br /> reduce greenhause gas emissions <br /> • Engage Redwood City youth in community energy education efforts and prepare <br /> youth far emerging jabs in the green economy <br /> Transpnrtation and L.and Use <br /> Transportation is the single biggest source af greenhouse gas emissians in Redwood City. <br /> Facilitating the use of transportation alter�ativ�s is also the biggest challenge in implementing <br /> an effective Community Climate Action Plan.Reducing emissions from the firansportation sector <br /> requires reducing dependence on the personal motor vehicles, using more fuel efficient and <br /> zero emission vehicles,supporting transit options,and encouraging"smart growth"ar palicies <br /> that promote e�cient land use development.Specific strategies in this section include: <br /> • Tncrease walking and bicycling as an alternative to driving <br /> • Promote the use of fueE-efficient, electric, and biodiesel vehicles in the <br /> community <br /> • Create conditions that decrease vehicle miles traveled and imprave utilization of <br /> transit <br /> BuiJt Envrronmenf <br /> The built environment provides an opportunity to stimuiate job creation whi(e helping residents <br /> and business to save money and conserve resources.Residents and business can implement <br /> strategies to reduce their energy use first.Next,they can deepen their reductions by <br /> considering renewable energy systems.Specific strategies in this section include: <br /> • Promote energy efficiency in the community by using city facilities as role <br /> madels and improve energy efficiency in the commercial building sectvr <br /> • Make green buiiding stancfard practice in the new construction and remodel <br /> market <br /> • Improve energy efficiency in the residential built environment and stimulate <br /> demand far energy retrofits and renewable energy systems <br /> e <br />
