Place approximately 32,141 cubic yards of earth material to raise <br />approximately 15,300 feet (2.9 miles) of existing exterior levees to + 10 feet <br />National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The finished levee top width will <br />be 15 feet at most locations, widening to 18 feet at a few locations, with a 2:1 <br />slope. Some fill will be placed within seasonal wetlands and a borrow ditch <br />at the inland base of the levee to improve the levee's structural stability; <br /> <br />b. Excavate approximately 36,000 cubic yards to create a 102,000-square-foot <br />(4.8 acre) portion of a 392,040-square-foot (nine-acre) seasonal wetland <br />created adjacent to levee segment V as mitigation for the project's wetland <br />impacts (Exhibit A); <br /> <br />c. Replace approximately 37,100 square feet of existing landscaping disturbed <br />during project construction; <br /> <br />d. Place gravel on a levee top to create a 12-foot-wide maintenance road; <br /> <br />e. Allow continued public access on levee segments I, II, VIII, and portions of <br />segments III and VII, but suspend public access on the remaining levee <br />segments on an interim basis to be reviewed every three years, and reroute <br />public access inland, largely outside of the Commission's jurisdiction (Exhibit <br />A); <br /> <br />f. Construct two fences, each with a gate, at levee segments III and VII, to allow <br />access for authorized persons and vehicles, but aHd to prevent general public <br />access (Exhibit A); <br /> <br />g. Construct, use and maintain an approximately 160-square-foot portion of <br />two, 200-square-foot pedestrian observation platforms cantilevered over the <br />bayward levee slope, and approximately 400 square feet of deck and <br />approach ramp at the observation platform constructed at the end of <br />Canvasback Way (Exhibit A); <br /> <br />h. Improve flood protection along approximately 1,385 feet of levee segment In <br />by placing approximately 1,500 cubic yards of fill (Exhibit A). No fill will be <br />placed in at adjoining seasonal wetlands or in the Bay (Amendment Nos. <br />Three and Five); aHd <br /> <br />1. Level the public access connection between levee segments II and In by <br />placing approximately 98 cubic yards of fill along 300 feet of levee segment II, <br />repave the 300 feet of levee segment II, maintain access to the observation <br />deck by creating a gradual slope for handicapped accessibility, and construct <br />timber stairs (Amendment No. Three)2 <br /> <br />h Raise the existing levee by placing 6- to 30-inches of earth material on the <br />levee top and reconstruct the 10- to 12-foot-wide, 14,800-foot-Iong public <br />access path on the raised levee on levee segments I, II, IV, and V <br />(Amendment No. Six); <br />
