a
Less than
Significant
Potentially With Less Than
Significant Mitigation Significant No
14. RECREATION. Would the project: Impact Incorporated Impact Impact
(a) Would the project increase the use of existing neighborhood and regional
parks or other recreational facilities such that substantial physical ❑ ❑ ❑
deterioration of the facility would occur or be accelerated?
(b) Does the project include recreational facilities or require the construction or
expansion of recreational facilities which might have an adverse physical ❑ ❑ ❑
effect on the environment?
Impact Analysis:
a-b) A small Public Access area is located immediatelt adjacent to the project site. The site consists of a
small parking lot and picnic tables. There are approximately 30 public parks elswhere in Redwood City,
ranging from small community parks that are one quarter of an acre to large,multi-use parks larger than
40 acres. Five parks are located within three miles of the project site: Andrew Spinas Park,Fleishman
Park,Hoover Park,Mezes Park and Palm Park. Collectively, these facilities include swimming pools,
sports fields, play equipment and play areas, tennis courts, and picnic areas.
The proposed project would demolish and renovate an existing gangeway and floating dock on the
project site, which is not intended for public uses.Because the project would not include any residences,
it would not result in an increase in Redwood City's resident population and would therefore not
increase the use of existing neighborhood parks or other recreational facilities or require the
construction or expansion of existing facilities.
The adjacent dirt area just north of the ramp or the bare area between the railroad tracks would be used
for materials and equipment staging, and construction vehicle parking. It is anticipated that through the
duration of the scheduled three-month construction period, acess to the designated"Public Access"area
adjacent to the Multi-Agency Maritime Facility would not be restricted. The project would have no
impact on recreational facilities in the area.
Reference
City of Redwood City Parks.Recreation and Community Services Department,
http://www.redwoodcity.org/parks/,accessed February 18,2010
Port of Redwood City Multi-Agency Maritime Facility 40 February 2010
Initial Study
