Fr A4 ATTACHMENT 1
Clrr.,,i
2003 Sea Otter Classic Elite Road Stage Race
Redwood City, California
Operational Narrative
In 2003, Sea Otter Classic requests the City of Redwood City to host Stage One of the
Elite Road Stage Race for professional men and women. We anticipate having
approximately 160 men and 75 women participating in the event. The circuit rice will
take place entirely in the city limits of the City of Redwood City. The proposed course is
shown on the attached maps.
Race Date: Wednesday, April 9, 2003
Race Hours: 9 am to 3 pm
Set -Up Commences at 5 am
Breakdown concludes at 6 pm
Course Description
Our desire is that Stage One of the Sea Otter Classic Elite Road Stage Race is a Circuit
Race that starts and finishes at Hamilton and Broadway. The proposed course for this
stage is shown on the attached maps. The start and finish will be located at Broadway
and Hamilton. The cyclists will cross El Camino at Jefferson, proceeding to circle a 9-
mile course in the Redwood City hills. After concluding the prescribed number of laps
(women will ride four laps; men will ride six laps), the cyclists will once again cross El
Camino at Jefferson as they return to finish.
Setup and Breakdown
Set up would consist of erecting a start/finish structure, placing 3,000 feet of hard fencing
and 'closing the downtown streets to non -race vehicular traffic. Street closures will
include Broadway (Winslow to Middlefield), Middlefield (Broadway to Jefferson).
Breakdown would start at the conclusion of awards and press conferences. Those two
things usually take one half hour after the conclusion of the event. Accordingly,
breakdown would start at approximately 3:00 PM and would be completed by 6:00 pm.
Breakdown could be staged to open key roads and intersections first and then proceed to
open the remainder of the downtown. The lap course would not need any breakdown in
order to immediately accept traffic.
Sea Otter (Iassit, ll(
2608 Sorino Sneer Redwood (it (nVnrnim 900 . Phnna- (AW 147 -7707 I .
