The
meeting included a question and answer period. Approximately 70 people
attended this meeting. Anticipating that most community members would not
read the entire Preliminary AA Report prior to the meeting (several hundred
pages including the appendices), Redwood City staff members prepared a
written overview of the Preliminary AA Report, and distributed the overview at the
April 29 meeting (overview, attachment 2). The written overview was an informal
summary intended to outline and highlight some of the key areas of the
Preliminary AA Report to assist Redwood City community members in their
review of the Preliminary AA Report. It was not intended to represent any
opinions or preferences, but was provided simply as a tool to assist in reviewing
and understanding the content of the Preliminary AA Report, helping people to
form their own opinions and preferences about how the HSR system may be built
through Redwood City. The meeting summary prepared by HSR staff is included
as Attachment 3.

. Mav 11. 2010 at Veterans Memorial Senior Center: This community workshop
was hosted by the City of Redwood City, and was designed to provide an
opportunity for Redwood City community members to have small group
discussions about what they support or are concerned about regarding the HSR
system, how those concerns might be addressed, and their preferences and
opinions about the alternatives presented by the HSR Authority. The workshop
included a welcome by Council Member Rosanne Foust (Council Members Jeff
Gee and Barbara Pierce also attended this workshop), followed by an overview
presentation by City staff. Approximately 50 community members attended this
meeting. Community members then broke into small groups, each facilitated by
a trained volunteer from the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC), to
review and discuss concerns and recommendations regarding rail alignment
through and adjacent to Redwood City. A Redwood City staff member also sat at
each small group table to answer any clarifying questions, providing technical
support for the discussion. At the end of discussion, each community member
was given three colored adhesive dots: one to indicate his/her preferred choice
for vertical alignment (green), one to indicate second choice for vertical alignment
(yellow), and one to indicate the vertical alignment they would not support (red).
Participants placed these dots on a chart at each table, to visually indicate their
preferences. Optionally, they drew a different vertical alternative on a blank
sheet as their preferred alignment. A meeting summary is included in this report
as Attachment 4, and a summary of the Udot" exercise is included as Attachment
B.

The City Council's High Speed Rail Ad Hoc Committee met on May 25, 2010 to review
the summary of the Preliminary AA Report and the community input. Committee
members identified the unique aspects, challenges, and opportunities of each Redwood
City alternative, and discussed the potential impact, questions, and concerns from the
perspective of both the City, and the participating community members. Committee
members also outlined the format and key messages for Redwood City's Preliminary
AA Report response letter to the HSR Authority.

In response to local community input, the HSR Authority plans to publish a
Supplemental AA Report in September 2010.
