REPORT

6.3E
Page

To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager

July 12, 2010

SUBJECT
Levy of Benefit Assessments for Fiscal Year 2010/2011 for the Redwood Shores
Landscape Maintenance District 1995-1

RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution to order the Levy of Benefit Assessments for FY 2010/2011 for the
Redwood Shores Landscape Maintenance District 1995-1 in the amount of $200,905.

BACKGROUND
The Redwood Shores Landscape Maintenance District No. 1995-1 (District) was
established in December 1995. The Lido Neighborhood Specific Plan, approved by the
City Council, recommended that a maintenance district be established to maintain
public areas and facilities benefiting the Lido Neighborhood. Creation of the District
establishes a means for financing annual landscape maintenance costs of public
facilities benefiting the Lido Neighborhood and its environs.

The District is annually and individually assessed to allow taxes to be levied and
collected by the San Mateo County Tax Controller and Collector's Office. The
agreement for the District allows for an increase in the assessment amount based on
escalating labor costs. For FY 2010/2011, the allowable adjustment of 2.070/0 is made.
Related budgets, assessments, and City Manager's Report are available for review in
the City Clerk's Office.

ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to authorize the tax levy, and consequently, not provide
additional landscape maintenance services to area property owners.

FISCAL IMPACT
The District's finance is separate from the City's General Funds. However, according to
the agreement for the District, the City's share of the District's landscape maintenance
budget is about 12% of the District's budget, which is $27,396.00.

Qv~

Grac~, P.
