One Council Member asked how the implementation would work and staff <br />provided some details. Council agreed on implementing this revenue alternative. <br /> <br />A Council Member did not want the Childcare Coordinator or the Juvenile Officer cuts. <br />Mayor Ira noted that the budget was prepared to begin in July 1 and the cuts will take <br />effect later so it is important to have a cushion/shock absorber and also some money <br />will be needed for the economic coordinator. Mayor Ira asked if there was anything <br />else that needed to be brought back to the Wednesday meeting. One Council Member <br />explained that public safety is not an "on or off' switch. The Police Chief was asked by <br />a Council Member to look at their cuts again and officers were encouraged to consider <br />the retirement option. This Council Member asked for a long term approach from POA <br />and PSA. She also said that sharing medical costs is an important matter. <br /> <br />One Council Member would like to have a study session on pension reform. Another <br />Council Member shared his disappointment at the unions that agreed to take a pay <br />raise. It was noted that a "shock absorber" period might be needed for the Fire <br />Department to implement the cuts. This Council Member would like to take a hard look <br />at what is the right number to run a city this size. The question came up of what is our <br />strategy for our future needs and having a larger vision that ties everything together. <br />This vision would be multi-departmental and across the board.
