She stated that she does not dispute that the tree is healthy but that the tree <br />should have been regularly pruned. <br />Lori Schulman stated that she has a similar concern in that the trees on her street <br />create problems with continual dropping of branches and limbs no matter what the <br />weather conditions. She stated that the City is not pruning on a regular basis and that <br />she believes that to be negligent of the City to not provide that service. She stated <br />that this is the second time a tree has fallen into her house and this incident actually <br />damaged a portion of gutter. She cited other incidents of damage to her and adjacent <br />properties. <br />Margaret Marshall, representing the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee, <br />invited the community to attend the celebration on Saturday, January 18. The event <br />takes place at the Veterans Center from 1 -5 p.m., with the main program from 3 -4 <br />p.m. The event has taken on a festival atmosphere lasting all afternoon with activities <br />for children and focuses on the past, present and future. <br />Diane Copeland, from the Peninsula Symphony Association Board of Directors, <br />encouraged everyone to attend an upcoming performance on January 19, 4:00 p.m. <br />at the Fox Theatre. Music inspired by Spain will be played with a special performance <br />by Carolina Luga's Flamenco Dance Company. Tickets can be ordered online or at <br />650 - 941 -5291. <br />Max Keech stated that the grand opening of the Redwood Shores Child Care Center <br />at 1050 Twin Dolphin Drive will occur on January 9. He stated that the building is up <br />and furniture being moved in to be opened at a completely full status with 156 <br />children on January 13. He further stated that a tenant has been secured for the <br />second floor, Associated Learning and Language Specialists, which assists younger <br />children with language difficulties. <br />Robert Escobedo stated he is present in regards to his brother's death that occurred <br />on November 17, 2002. He stated that the last time he spoke he asked that Council <br />do something about the situation but that the response to him was that nobody would <br />do anything about it. He stated that he has not heard anything back and that he <br />believes the eight officers involved should be off the street. He further stated that <br />although the Council stated that they are unable to get involved in such matters, they <br />in fact can by interviewing each officer. He stated that he sent a letter to the City <br />Attorney and Police Chief encouraging them to ask the Coroner for an inquest. <br />City Manager Everett stated that he had just learned of movement regarding the <br />issue and would contact Robert Escobedo to discuss the pertinent information. <br />7.
