From ~he first ten months of data, there was an average of 545 dders per month.
Using a figure of twenty (20) workdays (service days)per month, that is an
average of 27 riders per.day (AM plus PM riders). That results in 27 less "cold
starts" per day. Also to be considered are the reduction in vehicle miles as a
result of those who have started to use transit/Caltrain because of the
convenient, no-cost transportation that the service provides. We estimate'that of
the 27 total alders Per day (AM plus PM dders), about 80% are using the service
in both the AM and PM, and 20% are using the service one way, either only the
AM or only the PM. Based on this estimate, on average there are about 16
individual people using the service each day (roughly 11 two way riders and 5
one way riders).

From the survey, when asked if the dder was a regular public transit/Caltrain user
before being offered the Shores Shut'tie, '24 out of 52 (46%, nearly half)
responded no. If we assume that this percentage is representative of the entire
group, nearly half of the average 16 riders per day were using transit that day
instead of driving alone because of the service. From the survey, we also know
that most of the riders using the service commute on Caltrain. If we assume that
each of the 8 "new" alders is traveling an average of 40 miles that day on
Caltr~in, that results in a reduction of about 320 vehicle miles per day.

If we apply the expected ridership increase of 10% for upcoming years, the
expected reduction of vehicle miles will increase to 350 vehicles per day.
