Bortolotto & Co., Inc.
Substantiation: G. Bortolotto & Co., Inc. is the lowest responsive and responsible bidder.

The low base bid of $543,591.13 from G. Bortolotto & Co., Inc. is 80/0 higher than the
engineer's estimate of $505,000.00 for the cost of construction. Staff attributes this
variance to two different trade specialties involved in this work. G. Bortolotto & Co., Inc.
specializes in spot repair work, and listed a subcontractor as performing the slurry seal
work. Subcontracting indicates that additional markup has been added by the prime
contractor, thus increasing the overall cost. Based upon the bids received, staff
believes that the low bid of $543,591.13 is reasonable and recommends awarding the
contract to G. Bortolotto & Co., Inc.

ALTERNATIVES
Council may choose not to award the contract and direct staff to redesign and/or rebid
this project.

FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for the general work of this project has been previously appropriated in the
Fiscal Year 2009/10 Transportation Fund (Measure "A" and Proposition 42) - Street
Pavement Management Program budget which has an available balance of
$777,989.53 as of June 30, 2010.

f~~~ f~

Senior ivil 'neer
~

S. eter Vorametsanti, PE, PTOE, CFM
Ci Engineer

Peter Ingra~~~

City Manager

Chu Chan , P
Building, Infrastructure and
Transportation Department Director

ATTACHMENTS
Project Location Map

RELATED DOCUMENTS IN CITY CLERK'S OFFICE
1.
