successful the first year it is seen as an annual event that will grow both in stature, <br />number of participants and attendance by the public. This event is viewed as an <br />avenue to not only showcase the Downtown, but the beautiful residential <br />neighborhoods. <br />Rick Sutton, CEO and President of GaleForce, Inc. presented his proposal utilizing <br />PowerPoint that included the background of his company, showed events he has <br />put on in Monterey and around the country, along with a film clip. <br />Council Member Jordan stated that the event is one that well better educate <br />drivers and residents of Redwood City on recreational bike riding. <br />Rick Sutton's staff member explained the rolling enclosure concept as being similar <br />to a Presidential Motorcade and explained the process that utilizes various official <br />and safety vehicles to provide for the riders' safety. <br />Public Comment: <br />Paul Wassem stated his support for the event and commended Rick Sutton as <br />being well known and one of the best promoters in the business. He further stated <br />that the event is a healthy, positive event that partners with the community. <br />Mike Jacoubowsky stated his support and that the success of such events has <br />huge benefits. <br />Bill Lithgow stated his excitement with such an event and that he has volunteered <br />with the Sea Otter Classic for at least ten years. <br />Berry Stevens stated that the event has grown and been a success because of <br />integrity. <br />Alexander Wassmann stated that he has known Rick Sutton and as a Redwood <br />City resident loves cycling. <br />Richard Blanco asked that the Council welcome the event to the community and <br />offer the opportunity to see the superb athletes. <br />Ralph Criscione stated that this event presents a partnership, a community and <br />teamwork. He further stated that during PACT, he learned that Redwood City does <br />have a vision and that this is the flashpoint of that vision. <br />Gary Westby, who lives and works in Redwood City, stated that the event is a <br />world class road race and sporting event that puts Redwood City on the map. <br />Judy Buchan, representing the Downtown Business Group, stated that the Group <br />voted unanimously to support the event. <br />REGULAR REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY MEETING JANUARY 13, 2003 <br />MINUTES PAGE 2 <br />
