. Casing size or direct jacked pipe size and material
· Hydraulics and sizing of the replacement pipeline based on the hydraulic model used for the City
Master Plan
. Utility conflicts
The alignment alternatives will be developed to a point that allows a comparison of the alternatives in a
matrix-type alternatives evaluation. Preliminary plan and profiles layout figures will be developed for
each alternative. Opinions of probable construction costs will be developed for the construction of the
project and based on results of the trenchless construction method evaluation described elsewhere.
The evaluation will be based on how each alternative best achieves a set of criteria that will be
developed through the alternatives development process. Each alternative will be scored against each
criterion and ranked by total score.

I
I
I
j
I
I

I

Subtask 3.2: Geotechnical Investigation
RMCs geotechnical subconsultant will conduct a geotechnical investigation that will include one
exploratory boring at each of the Jacking and receiving shaft locations (two total) and a review of other
available information on the soil characteristics.

Subtask 3.2.1: Research and Site Reconnaissance
Geologic and seismic research to establish geologic setting and current seismic design parametersl field
mapping and notation of geology and significant surface featuresl historic topographic map review and
historic air photo review to evaluate development history and changes in geomorphology. Review of
pertinent construction precedent Including design and construction records of existing nearby pipelines
and structures as provided by the City of Redwood City and from DCMjGeoEngineersl current South
Bayside System Authority project files.

Subtask 3.2.2: Boring Locations, Utility Notifications and Permits
Field mark a total of two (2) proposed test boring locationsj one (1) at planned launching and receiving
pit locations at each end of the proposed Highway 101 undercrossings in public right-of-ways In Maple
Street and Walnut Street. Notify Underground Service Alert (USA) prior to beginning field work so that
public and private underground utilities can be identified and proposed boring locations cleared.

r..
;

For the performance of the test boringsl obtain (1) a drilling permit from the Environmental Health
Services Division of San Mateo County, and (2) an encroachment permit from the City of Redwood City.
This scope of work assumes that the City of Redwood City will waive any encroachment permit fees and
that no other permits or rights of entry or access will be needed.

Subtask 3.2.3: Subsurface Investigation
Drill a total of two (2) test borings at the sites indicated in Subtask 3.2.2, each to a depth of 15 feet
below the planned Invert of the proposed pipeline, to a maximum of 40 feet below the existing ground
surface. A continuous log of soli and groundwater conditions will be maintained by GeoEngineers' field
engineer. Disturbed and "undisturbedJl soil samples will be taken at maximum 5-foot vertical Intervals
with continuous sampling through the anticipated tunnel zone plus one diameter above and below. The
test borings wJII be backfilled with grout in accordance with City and County permit requirements and
capped with a minimum of 6 inches of cold patch asphalt or quick-set concrete. Soil cuttings will be
disposed of off-site, This scope of work and budget assumes that contaminated 5011 and/or
groundwater will not be encountered. If any unusual vapors, odors or visual contamination are noticed
during drilling of any test boring, the boring will be stopped, backfilled with grout and the suspected drill
cuttings will be bagged, labeled for future source reference and provided to the City for disposal.
