LEADMAN DEFINITION Under general supervision, to supervise and assist a crew in performing a variety of semi-skilled, and sk~lled tasks in the street, sewer, and water, construction, maintenance, and repair activities; to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Duti~s assigned tb positions in this class are generally performed in the field without close supervision. Work a?signments ar~ usually made on a daily basis and supervisory responsibility is limited to direct supervi'sion 'of field crews on the job. Incumbents are required to participate in the work performed by street, sewer or water crews, and only one of these activities is usually performed as a work assignment. ' TYPICAL TASKS Street Receivies daily assi~nments on street 'and road con~truction, main- tenance, or repair; lays out the work, supervises'and assists a crew in completing the work; supervises and participate's in breaking up old concrete; building, forms, mixing and pouring concrete, cutting and preparing streets for patches, filling or building up holes, cracks, or low spots in city streets, spreading pre-~ix and oil macadam; uses construction equipment in 'street maintenance and repair; 'supervises and assists in rough carpentry work such as laying forms, leveling and lining forms for foundations; supervises and participates in ~he painting of traffic markings on city,streets, and the installa- tion of traffic signs and traffic 'control devices; inspects, and checks work to see that'it is done properly and expeditiously; insures proper care and use of tools and equipment; checks daily personnel time sheets and maintains records of materials used. ,'Se~er Superviies and assists in the work of a crew in cleaning, flushing, and repairing sewer lines; investigates stoppages in sewer lines; operates pumps to pump sewage from broken or stopped-up lines;' investigates complaints and makes necessary repairs; raises or lowers manholes; builds manholes, catch basins, and small bulkheads and installs new sections in sewer-lines; inspects and cleans storm drains; assists in,keeping streets and gutters clear of trash and rubbish; maintains simple r~cords of time and material~. , Water Supervises a crew of semi-skilled and unskilled workers and personally participates in installing and maintaining water lines, mains, and related facilities; determines that work is ,done properly and expedi- Exhibit D
