<br />J.;. <br /> <br />. . <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />page 2 <br /> <br />POLICE MATRON-SECRETARY <br /> <br />Matron - Assists officers in arrest and booking of female prisoners, searches <br /> <br />and accompanies prisoners to jail, to court for arraignment and sentence, to <br /> <br />juvenile hall or hospital for observation, and accompanies o%ficers in trans- <br /> <br />porting female prisoners from other jurisdictions to this city. <br /> <br />Radio Dispatcher-switchboard Operator relief - If required, works relief radio <br /> <br />dispatcher, transmitting, receiving and recording radio mea8ages and teletype <br /> <br />messages, operates manual telephone switchboard, types and performs clerical <br /> <br />duties in connection with records and reports of communications division. <br /> <br />EMPLOYMEIIT S'1'Al1DARDS <br /> <br />Education and experience - Combination of education and experience substantially <br /> <br />equivalent to graduation from high school, including or supplemented Dy c~ <br /> <br />pletion of a standard course in stenography and three years of experience in <br /> <br />stenographic and clerical work. <br /> <br />Knowledge and ability - Good knowledge of police department organization and <br /> <br />applicable laws, rules, regulations and procedures, police techniques parti- <br /> <br />cularly as related to dealing with female offenders, rules of evidence and <br /> <br />laws of arreat. Thorough knowledge of clerical procedures and practices, <br /> <br />correct spelling, vocabulary, grammar, office machines and equipment, filing, <br /> <br />indexing and cross reference methods. Ability to take dictation at a rate of <br /> <br />l~O words a minute and accurately transcribe it, to type at a speed not 1e88 <br /> <br />than SO words a minute from clear copy. Ability to learn rapidly, to inter- <br /> <br />pret specific laws, ordinances, departmental organization, function and proce- <br /> <br />dureS1' to deal tactfully and effectively with prisoners, law enforcement off i- <br /> <br />cers and general publiCi to get along well with others and willingness to work <br /> <br />at night and overtime if necessary. <br />
