<br /> Award of Contract—2010-2�11 Watermain Replacement Project
<br /> RECOMMENDATION
<br /> Approve, by motion, the contract documents and award the standard form contract for
<br /> the 2010-2011 Watermain Replacement Project to Casey Construction, Inc. of
<br /> Redwood City, for their responsive and responsible low bid of $1,�49,549.00 and
<br /> authorize the City Manager to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to 1�°/a of
<br /> the amount awarded.
<br /> BACKGROUND
<br /> The city systematically replaces sections of aging watermain infrastructure to ensure the
<br /> continued reliability of the system and to provide for improved fire protection. Annually,
<br /> staff from Building, Infrastructure and Transportation and Public V1lorks Services
<br /> departments identify pipeline sections that have had service disruptions, excessi�e
<br /> maintenance requirements, or capacity limitations due to age and target those sections
<br /> for replacement. This year, the 2010-2011 Watermain Replacement Project will replace
<br /> approximately 5,819 feet of deteriorated cast iron water pipeline (distribution and
<br /> transmission systems) with more durable PVC pipe. On Valota Street, 8-inch cast iron
<br /> will be replaced with 12-inch PVC to serve as an arterial main. Substandard 2-inch
<br /> galvanized pipe wilf be upgraded to 8-inch PVC watermain on Ruby, Sapphire, and Taft.
<br /> Lateral service connections (131) and eight existing fire hydrants will be replaced. As
<br /> well, eight additional fire hydrants will be installed to enhance fire protection capabilities.

<br /> The nine (9) bids received at the bid opening on September 1, 2010, are summarized in
<br /> the table below.
