The variance is attributed to a very competitive bidding environment. <br /> Silicon Valley Builders has successfully completed similar projects in the past and is a <br /> qualified contractor. Based on the bids received, staff believes that the low bid is <br /> reasonable and recommends awarding the contract to Silicon Valley Builders. <br /> ALTERNATIVES <br /> Council may choose not award the contract for Maddux and Stafford Parks Sand Play <br /> Area Renovation and direct staff to reject bids, redesign the project, and repeat the <br /> public bidding process. The sand play areas must necessarily remain closed until they <br /> are fully rehabilitated. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Funds for the general work of this project have been approved and appropriated in the <br /> Fiscal Year 2010/11 budget as Capital Projects Fund — Stafford/Maddux Park Sand <br /> Play which has an available balance of $81,400.00 as of August 31, 2010.
