Richard Blanco asked that the Council welcome the event to the community and <br /> offer the opportunity to see the superb athletes. <br /> <br />_. Ralph Criscione stated that this event presents a partnership, a community and <br /> teamwork. He further stated that during PACT, he learned that Redwood City does <br /> have a vision and that this is the flashpoint of that vision. <br /> <br /> Gary Westby, who lives and works in Redwood City, stated that the event is a <br /> world class road race and sporting event that puts Redwood City on the map. <br /> <br /> Judy Buchan, representing the Downtown Business Group, stated that the Group <br /> voted unanimously to support the event. <br /> <br /> Ray Wang stated his hope that there would be a good tie-in between local <br /> businesses and the program so they can benefit from the success. <br /> <br /> Rudy Luca asked who will monitor and pay for the street closings and secondly, <br /> the responsibility of the City for any road improvements. He also asked what the <br /> $25,000.00 cost will cover. <br /> <br /> Robert Baldwin stated his support for the event as one that will never be forgotten. <br /> <br /> Eddie Maldonado stated that if the City of Redwood City is hosting the event for <br /> $25,000.00, that there are more important issues to tend to such as the flooding in <br /> Friendly Acres. <br /> <br /> Mayor Claire stated that there is a Capital Improvement Project account funded for <br /> the flooding issue in that particular area. <br /> <br /> Downtown Manager Moeller stated that in working with the Police Department it <br /> was indicated that a conservative estimate for the cost of providing motorcycle <br /> officers and the rolling enclosure support would be approximately $20,000.00. The <br /> remainder of the $25,000.00 would be applied to staff support for noticing and <br /> posting of meetings and other needed items such as pothole repair work. <br /> <br /> M/S Howard/Jordan approving that the City of Redwood City and the Redwood <br /> City Redevelopment Agency host a proposed world class bicycle race, the "2003 <br /> Sea Otter Classic Elite Road Stage Race", and authorize a budget appropriation <br /> from un-appropriated Redevelopment funds for public support and in-kind services <br /> in an amount not to exceed $25,000.
