q, 92
REDWOOD CITY WATER SUPPLY UPDATE (Cont.)
Status of Water Conservation Program "Best Management Practices" (BMP's)
• BMP #1: Water Allocation Program (WAP) database for single - family customers and web
browser update completed. A brief "test drive" presentation was made to the City Council on
January 13, 2003. Staff is continuously adding new customer information and /or posting
corrections as received.
BMP#5: Participation in the new BAWUA regional large landscape conservation program
was approved by the City Council Nov. 4, 2002, at a high activity level, and a cost of $115,000.
The project consultants mailed the initial information packages to all landscape accounts in
February, with follow -up February meter reading information sent the first week of March. We
expect to perform 30-40 site audits in March and April 2003. Additionally, the initial meeting
of consultants and city parks maintenance staff was held in late February.
BMP#6: Redwood City joined the BAWUA regional washing machine rebates program in
August 2001. Since that time, Redwood City has approved and processed a total of 760
rebates at $150 each, for a total expenditure to date of $114,000. The water savings that this
represents is estimated at 3.9 million gallons, or nearly 12 acre -feet per year (enough water to
support up to 48 high - efficiency multi - family housing units). Redwood City leads all BAWUA
agencies in toilet rebates since the regional program began.
• New web page (httr)://www.redwoodcity.org/conservation/index.html posted.
• Pending conservation program elements for other BMP's — and choices on the degree of
aggressiveness - will be brought back to the Council in the context of the FY 2003/04 budget
and water rates. Recommendations will include an ultra -low flush (ULF) toilet rebate program
and an apartment building target toilet change -out project.
Visit the web site at hftp://www.redwoodcity.org/water/index.html
Watch the web page for meeting schedules and informational updatesl
Contact: Peter Ingram, Public Works Services Director (650) 780 -7464 pincram®redwoodcitv.org
2 of 2
