CITY OF REDWOOD CrY - DOWNTOWN RETAIL - CINEMA PROJECT ON BROADWAY '
INTRODUCTION
The City of Redwood City ( "City ") has taken action, which may result in the purchase
and development of the Downtown Retail- Cinema Project on Broadway ( "Project ")
within the County of San Mateo, City of Redwood City. If the plans proceed, the Project
will require the displacement of eighteen (18) businesses and two (2) governmental
offices. The Project is located in downtown Redwood City. It would occupy the block
bounded by Middlefield Road on the south and west, Broadway on the north and
Jefferson Avenue on the east, as shown in the attached Project Site Map— Attachment
1.
The overall development concept for the project includes the demolition of the existing
structures for the construction of an underground public parking structure. The Project
will also include a mixed -use building consisting of ground floor retail stores, restaurant,
and a multiplex cinema. The Project is in conformance with the City of Redwood City's
General Plan land use and economic goals and policies. The City's objectives for the
redevelopment of the Project are to create a single, unified development that will serve
to revitalize the downtown area and create jobs within the City of Redwood City.
In order to evaluate the present circumstances and re- establishment requirements of
the businesses and governmental agencies which would be permanently displaced by
the Project, Pacific Relocation Consultants (PRC), an experienced relocation firm, has
been selected to prepare this Relocation Plan and provide all required relocation
assistance. The following Relocation Plan ( "Plan ") and subsequent relocation
assistance for the Project will be provided in accordance with the standards and
provisions of the State of California Relocation Law, Government Code Section 7260,
et. Seq., and Title 25, Chapter 6, Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition,
as amended through January 1, 2001.
The City staff is working with consulting firms with the specific expertise necessary to
develop a professional and functional program of acquisition and relocation for those
proposed to be displaced by this Project.
