The board reviewed the
results of a recent statewide poll commissioned by the League and its fiscal
reform partners, CSAC and CSDA. Some of the major findings from the poll
included: (1) a high degree of voter concern about the direction of the state
and a serious lack of confidence about the ability of the state leaders to deal
with the budget crisis; (2) wide support for a combination of budget cuts and
temporary taxes to address the deficit; (3) support for taxing Internet sales and
strong opposition to taxing services; and (4) very strong opposition to state
efforts to take local revenues.
