Box 391 Redwood City, California 94064 -0391 Tel: (650) 780.7220 Fax: (650) 261.9102 www.redwoodcity.org On behalf of the Council of the City of Redwood City, I am writing to endorse SB 915 and SB 916, which are scheduled to be heard by the Senate Transportation Committee on April 29. The Council of the City of Redwood City passed a resolution (Resolution No. 14494) on January 27, 2003 reaffirming its support for the San Francisco Bay Area Water Transit Authority's (WTA) plan for new and expanded ferry service, including a route serving Redwood City. That resolution also supported utilizing a portion of State bridge toll revenues to fund the implementation of this plan. In both 1999 and 2002, the Council passed similar resolutions of support (Resolutions No. 13552 and 14460). SB 915 approves the WTA's implementation and operations plan, and specifies that the Authority will submit a final plan to the legislature after completion of its programmatic environmental impact report. SB 916 provides for a special election for the public to vote on a proposed increase in the State bridge tolls, the proceeds of which will fund the WTA ferry plan. These are crucial pieces of legislation which will set the stage for implementation of a long -term transportation program which will be of great benefit to the Bay Area.
