I know California and I know <br />Redwood City. I was raised in California and I have been visiting Redwood City <br />since the mid -70s when a friend I have known for 35 years moved to your city. I have <br />often enjoyed the close connection between your city and the Bay. As I stated to you <br />yesterday, I believe that a resolution of this matter can be achieved with a fresh <br />approach centered on a pragmatic and honest balancing of the needs of the species <br />and the needs of your constituency. <br />When we spoke, you recognized that I have substantial personal relationships <br />within the Department of Interior and other federal agencies. This is true. However, <br />although I do know and work with officials in this government at the regional and <br />Washington, DC level on a daily basis, you also asked me to address my method of <br />operation to build consensus. I can address my methods by relating to you my <br />personal beliefs, my past consensus building efforts and my current situation. As <br />alluded to above, I believe that the best solution to most environmental issues is a <br />pragmatic non - philosophical approach.
