'I don't want to deny injured or
sick people the benefits they currently enjoy. It's an
extraordinarily painful process. Nobody goes into
government to do this. If somebody can show me
how we can get out of this thicket without causing
pain to individuals, I'll embrace it in a New York
minute.'"
Los Angeles Times, 5/5/03, Banks Put on
the Spot— State budget makers look to Wall
Street as a club to force GOP support for
higher taxes and as a scapegoat to avoid
political fallout. Use Tax. Vehicles, Vessels and
Aircraft. Today if you take a trip across one of
California's borders to buy a luxury motor home, car
or yacht and use it for over 90 days in another state
or country, you can avoid paying use tax on that
purchase. AB 694 will put the brakes on this tax
loophole by requiring Californians to pay use tax if the
property is subject to vehicle registration or property
taxes and the vehicle, boat or plane was stored or
used more than half time in California in the first 12
months of ownership.
