51A -1 <br />May 19, 2003 <br />Subject <br />2003 -2004 Cost Shared Sidewalk Repair Project <br />Recommendation <br />By Motion, approve the contract documents, accept the bid, and award the contract for the <br />2003 -2004 Cost Shared Sidewalk Repair Project to Consortium Consolidate Corporation, <br />of Santa Clara, CA, for the amount of $270,100.00 and reject all other bids. <br />Background <br />On March 10, 2003, staff sent the project specifications to fourteen qualified bidders. <br />The proposed contract has been duly advertised and seven sealed bids were received <br />and opened at the Office of the City Engineer on April 9, 2003. <br />BIDDER PRICE <br />Consortium Consolidate Corp., Santa Clara, CA $270,100.00 <br />P & P Construction, Oakland, CA $307,400.00 <br />JJR Construction, Inc., San Mateo, CA $312,025.00 <br />Lucas Concrete, Inc., Fremont, CA $316,000.00 <br />Vanguard Construction, Inc., Oakland, CA $322,250.00 <br />Bianchi Construction, Inc., San Jose, CA $344,553.00 <br />Sposeto Engineering, Union City, CA $502,800.00 <br />Engineer's Estimate $312,750.00 <br />Median $316,000.00 <br />Consortium Consolidate Corp. (CC Corp.) is the lowest responsible bidder at 13.6% <br />below the Engineer's estimate. CC Corp. worked for the City on the 2001 -2002 Tree <br />Preservation and Sidewalk Repair Program. They performed the contract to the <br />satisfaction of staff and the property owners. Staff is confident that they will <br />complete the work according to specifications. <br />Project Scope of Service <br />The project will repair damaged sidewalk, driveway approach, and curb and gutter at any <br />location in the City where the property owners agree to pay one -half the cost of concrete <br />construction. There is no charge to the property owner for associated tree root pruning or <br />street paving. The contract includes the construction of wheel chair ramps at locations <br />identified by resident requests. The contract also includes the construction of concrete <br />sidewalk, driveway, and curb and gutter following repairs by the City's water and sewer <br />utilities. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
