To comply, the City of Redwood City has raised the identified portions of
the levee and installed a new sheet pile retaining wall near SBSA. If perennial
vegetation is not installed, the area near the sheet piles may cause an increase in
California Clapper Rail (CCR) and Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse (SMHM) vulnerability
to predation during extreme high tide.
SCOPE OF WORK
LEVEE VEGETATION
1. The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has mandated that native plants of
suitable height be planted on the levee slope and the four foot area between the
sheet pile and the outboard side of the Levee (see exhibit A). The planting area
covers approximately 920 LF. An approved planting plan is outlined below
Top of Levee (4' Strip from Top of Bank to Sheet Pile Wall)
Typical Mature # Per Clump and
Common Scientific Name Plant Plant Size Spacing /Placement
Name Height/Indicator on Center of Clump -
Status
California Artemisia Large tree band 3 Seedlings per clump
Sage californica 4.9 -8 ft/UPL (2.875"W x 5.5 "D) spaced 4' from center
Lizard Tail Erioph 1.0 -4.9 ftlUPL Large tree band 3 Seedlings per clump
staechadifolium (2.875 "W x 5.5 "D) spaced 4' from center
Common Centromadia .3 -2.9 ft/FAC Seed 25.0 pound/acre
Spikeweed pungens
Saltgrass Distichlis spicata 0.3 -1.6 ft/FACW Seed mix 25.0 pounds /acre
Red Fescue Fesfuca rubra 1.0 -2.6 ft/FAC Seed mix 25.0 pounds /acre
