Project Need (1 pg) The Redwood City Mid Point Caltrain Shuttle has served the Redwood City Caltrain station since 2007 providing commuters and residents alike with a convenient connection to rail. This ' shuttle is one-third of a city shuttle network improving connectivity throughout portions of the city. The new midday Mid Point service (not included with this grant request) and the Climate Best Express On Demand Shuttle providing door-to-door shuttle service for low income users within the MTC Lifeline defined service area, make up the balance of service. To minimize potential barriers for commuters using the rail service, patrons must have direct, e�cient, and safe access between the Caltrain station and nearby workplaces. For many riders, walking or bicycling will be sufficient options for traveling the "last mile" between the workplace and Caltrain station; however, distance, weather, and personal safety concerns may preclude others potential Caltrain users from doing so. The Redwood City Mid Point Caltrain Shuttle makes timed connections at the Redwood City Caltrain Station meeting many peak commute hour trains. The Redwood City Mid Point Caltrain Shuttle serves the Mid Point Technology Center and Stanford Medicine Outpatient Center complexes in southern Redwood City along US 101. There are currently four employers, including the city, officially participating in the employer group. The current employers represent almost 2,600 potential Caltrain users. Stanford University and Medical Center project 8,000 employees at their site alone over the next few years. Without the Mid Point Caltrain service, employees, patients and residents would be required to walk the few blocks from the nearest hourly SamTrans 270 bus then transfer to other services en route to their destination — or mo�e likely drive to their destination. While this walk may seem relatively short, the reduced peak hour SamTrans frequency coupled with need for mobility-impaired patients with easier access to the Stanford Medical facility makes the service invaluable.
