Project Effectiveness (2 pgs) <br /> Ridership - <br /> In 2009, the Redwood City Mid Point Shuttle transported 17,986 boardings with its single <br /> commute hour vehicle. That equates to an average 70 daily boardings or 12.1 riders per <br /> service hour. These figures represent a 44% ridership increase over 2008. <br /> Cost per Rider - <br /> in 2009, the service cost $5.24 per rider. There are no administrative costs associated with <br /> management of this service — strictly service expenses. <br /> VMT Reduction — <br /> Subtracting shuttie trips, the service eliminated 14,594 single occupancy vehicle trips in 2009. <br /> Based on information extrapolated from a 2009 BART Commuter Vehicle Emission Calculation <br /> project, an average one-way commute distance of 19.6 miles was their survey result for Bay <br /> Area commuters. <br /> Ridership: 17,986 X 19.6 miles = 352,525.6 rider miles saved <br /> Shuttle: 32 miles/day X 255 days = 8,160 annual shuttle miles created <br /> Annual Net: 352,525.6 rider miles saved — 8,160 shuttle miles created <br /> = 344,365.6 net VMT reduced in 2009 <br /> Non Duplication: <br /> The existing service has very limited duplication of existing transit service. When the service <br /> was initially designed, the Mid Point Technology Park was at the end of the 270 morning trip <br /> and the beginning of the 270 afternoon trip; meaning riders would have to sit on the bus for the <br /> 30 minute trip to/from the Caltrain station instead of the shuttle's 10 minute ride. Also, the <br /> shuttle operates approximately every 30 minutes compared to the 270's hourly schedule. <br /> Limited mobility users destined for the Stanford Medicine Outpatient Center are unable to walk <br /> the 4/10ths of a mile from the nearest 270 stop. <br /> Access to major transit: <br /> The shuttle provides timed transfers to the Redwood City Caltrain Station. The shuttle is <br /> timed to depart after the sequence of NB/SB Caltrain arrivals or the shuttle arrives prior to the <br /> first of the sequence of NB/SB Caltrain departures. <br /> Access to neighborhoods/Service Gaps: <br /> The SamTrans 270 does operate nearby in the area though on hourly headways and not <br /> directly to the Mid Point Technology Park or Stanford Medicine Outpatient Center. The <br /> employees, patients or residents departing the area would need to ride the 270 bus for <br /> approximately 30 minutes to get to the Redwood City Caltrain Station decreasing the likelihood <br /> of using public transit. The Redwood City Mid Point Caltrain Shuttle provides the commute <br /> hour connectivity missing in the immediate area. <br /> Population served: <br /> The primary focus of the Redwood Ciry Mid Point Caltrain Shuttle service is ridership destined <br /> to employment centers or medical care in the Mid Point area.
