2c. How proposed indicators, targets and outcomes relate to the barriers that the
project proposed to address
Examining the five key barriers identified by the Stewardship Council —
transportation, cultural relevancy, appropriate gear, safety and availability of usable
open space — is at the core of the program design as youth participants in the YO -It's
Youth Outdoors! program will investigate specifically what these barriers look like to
youth ages 13 -18 in the community. Based on these findings and together with RC
2020's partners, youth will co- create strategies to address these barriers.
More specifically, the barriers will be addressed through the following short and
long -term outcomes:
Short -term Outcomes:
• Youth will increase their knowledge in environmental literacy, community
resources and decision - making structures
• Program providers will have a greater understanding of what would make
existing outdoor spaces and programs more fun, safe, relevant, positive and
accessible for youth from low- income, Latino communities in southern San Mateo
County
Long -term Outcomes:
• Youth will have increased access to the outdoors
• Youth will increase their participation in the outdoors
• Youth will have increased enrichment experiences with the outdoors
• Program providers will offer more programming involving outdoor adventures,
apprenticeships and field trips
3. Work products that will be produced to summarize findings of monitoring and
evaluation activities, and when these products will be available
The evaluator will synthesize all quantitative and qualitative data findings through
the following written products:
• Full evaluation report with details of findings related to the program's short -term
outcomes (available 11/15/10);
• Executive summary of the full report (available 11/15/10)
• Power point presentation that includes highlights of findings (available 11/30/10)
• Follow -up report with details of findings related to the program's long -term
outcomes (available 4/18/11)
'Cit of Redwood City - 2009 Evaluation Grant Page 13 of 17 January 22, 2009
