The recommended method of velocity profiling is the 0.2/0.4/0.8 method. The flow cross - section Is
divided into vertical rectangles across the channel. Within each rectangle, a point velocity measurement
is made at 0.2 x depth, 0.4 x depth and 0.8 x depth. The 0.4 measurement is averaged with the average
of the 0.2 and 0.8 points to estimate the average flow velocity of that particular rectangle. This procedure
is continued for all rectangles and appropriately weighted to
determine an overall estimate of average velocity (See Figure 2).
The velocity measurements (whether single point velocity ` y/
measurement or more extensive velocity profiling) are recorded ' '
simultaneously with real -time meter velocity measurement for :
comparison (comparative velocity measurements). The date and
time of written calibration values will be recorded. In some flow
.
monitoring units, there may be a 5- second time delay between when , 4 _ ,
the flow level is sensed by the flow meter, and when the flow f
velocity is displayed on the computer screen). The field personnel
will coordinate the physical and metered comparative velocity
measurements accordingly. Figure 2. 0.210.410.8 Profiling Method
V&A's intent and approach is to (a) provide the most accurate and most reliable data possible for open
channel flow monitoring, and (b) add value to the deliverables to the City, which will allow City engineers
to make necessary decisions quickly and with minimal extra and unnecessary work.
Prolect Personnel
The key project team members are listed as follows:
Key Project Team Members: V &A Consulting Engineers
Jose Villalobos, P.E., Principal -in- Charge
Kevin Krajewski, P.E., Project Manager
Derek Wurst, P.E., Project Engineer
Oliver Pohl, Associate Engineer
Principal Contact Person: Kevin Krajewski, P.E., Condition Assessment Division Manager
155 Grand Avenue, Suite 700, Oakland, CA 94612
(510) 903 -6600 (main) and (510) 903 -6601 (fax)
kkrajewskk tvaenaineering.com
V &A is committed to completing this project in a thorough and timely manner with staff that is experienced
and focused on the project requirements.
Hourly Rates
The V &A Fee schedule is shown as an attachment at the end of this document.
10 -0614 Storm Page 3 of 8
1-
