5.A I
Page 2
generations of boys, girls and adults, Frank was involved with the Redwood City Jr.
49ers Pop Warner football program for over 40 years until retiring at the age of 84. He
was always in his element when surrounded by youth, and every player was a"champ"
to him. In January 2005, Frank was featured on Channel 5 KPIX as an exemplary youth
advocate.
At their September 2007 meeting, the Commission passed a recommendation to name
an athletic field at Red Morton Park in honor of Frank Guida and to bring this
recommendation to a future City Council meeting. Due to a number of other projects
and staffing changes in the Parks, Receation and Community Services Department,
this effort was put on hold until now.
ALTERNATIVES
The Pop Warner Football Association's first choice for an appropriate memorial to Mr.
Guida was naming the turf at McGarvey Field, the actual site of his service to the
community. The Commission did not feel comfortable changing the name of a field '
already named in honor of a Redwood City pioneer. ,,
FISCAL IMPACT
The Pop Warner Football Association will cover all costs associated with the placement
an fu plaque or memorial.
 S.-c
Christopher Beth Robert B. Bell
Director Interim City Manager
Parks, Recreation and Community Services
