8.6
1. Administrative changes and updates to existing sections and references to co'tri
with the publication of the new Code.
2. Addition of language that will require Limited Area Sprinkler Systems for existing R-2
' occupancies (apartment buildings) when a permit for the installation of a new roof
(re-roofl has been issued by the City of Redwood City.
3. Delete the local amendment for in-building communications systems in multistoried
high-rise buildings, which is now contained in the California Fire Code.
In accord with state law and the city charter, the fire code ordinance has been published
twice in the official newspaper. In addition to adopting the ordinance, at the scheduled
public hearing and second reading of the fire code ordinance, the City Council must also
adopt a resolution and the Findings of Facts for the local amendments (Attachment 2).
ALTERNATIVES
1. Waive the adoption of the California Fire Code with local amendments which will
result in Redwood City being regulated by the California Fire Code as adopted by
the State of California without local amendments.
2. Direct staff to further review the proposed ordinance based upon public comments.
FISCAL IMPACT
Adoption of the California Fire Code will present similar costs to update materials used
for our department personnel (estimated to be $4,000.00} as in each previous code
adoption cycle. No new department funding is required.
..:.,._.'
 -t.-.-
James Palisi James F. Skinner Robert B.
