by them, and hauled by them under a special written permit <br /> issued by the City Health Officer. <br /> Such contract or agreement shall also require that <br /> said contractor procure for the period covered by the pro- <br /> posed contract, full compensation insurance with an <br /> "Insurance Carrier" as defined by and in accordance with <br /> the provision of the Act of the Legislature of the State <br /> of California, known as "Workmen' s Compensation Act," <br /> approved May 26, 1913, and as subsequently amended. Such <br /> contract shall also require that said contractor carry <br /> public liability insurance to the extent of one hundred <br /> thousand dollars ($100,000) for the death or injury to <br /> one person, and three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) <br /> for the death or injury of more than one person, and property <br /> damage insurance to the extent of five thousand dollars <br /> ($5,000) upon each of the trucks or other vehicles used by <br /> him in carrying out of the work called for in the contract; <br /> such insurance to cover both the City and the refuse <br /> collector." <br /> SECTION 6. This ordinance is hereby declared to be necessary <br /> as an emergency measure for the immediate preservation of the public <br /> peace, health and safety, and shall be effective July 1, 1957. <br /> The reason for the urgency for this ordinance is as follows : <br /> The South County Garbage and Refuse Disposal District, a political <br /> subdivision or public entity located within the County of San Mateo, <br /> has established certain rules and regulations requiring an immediate <br /> change in the method of garbage and refuse disposal, and Bay Area <br /> Air Pollution Control District, also a political subdivision or <br /> public entity, is about to establish additional regulations <br /> governing such disposal. Such regulations are necessary to prevent <br /> unhealthy and unsanitary conditions in connection with the disposal <br /> of garbage and refuse in the City of Redwood City and the County <br /> of San Mateo.
