4116 <br />Family Connections <br />Family Connections' mission is to help low income parents become actively <br />involved in their children's lives so that children will be more successful in school <br />and parents will be better equipped with parenting and advocacy skills. This is <br />done through a <br />tuition free parent participation preschool. In addition to the preschool activities, <br />Family Connections also offers parent education. $7,000 was requested to <br />support outreach to and participation of Redwood City families in the program. <br />Friends for Youth. Inc.. <br />Friends for Youth (FFY) serves at -risk youth in Redwood City by creating and <br />cultivating long -term, one - to-one friendships with adult volunteer mentors. Youth <br />who are physically or emotionally deprived, exhibit delinquent behavior, or are at <br />risk of academic failure are referred through professional agencies. FFY <br />provides ongoing, individualized attention and guidance to support and enrich <br />each friendship. In addition, FFY provides life skills workshops and a group <br />activities program that are designed to expose youth to new options for growth. <br />$12, 000 was requested to support these programs for Redwood City Youth. <br />Teen Preanancv Coalition of San Mateo Countv ('Teen Talk" and "Plain Talk ") <br />Teen Pregnancy Coalition provides educational programs for youth in the <br />community on pregnancy prevention. The Coalition provides 'Teen Talk" for <br />youth and "Plain Talk" for parents. $20,000 was requested to provide "Teen <br />Talk" and "Plain Talk" to Redwood City Middle School and High School students <br />and their parents at five school sites. <br />YMCA of the Mid - Peninsula - Sequoia YMCA After School Childcare, <br />The Sequoia YMCA has served the residents of Redwood City for more than 50 <br />years with programs that help children develop self- esteem and model the values <br />of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility. One of the programs offered by <br />the Sequoia YMCA is their After School Childcare Program. $25,000 was <br />requested to assist the YMCA in providing financial assistance to families <br />needing after - school childcare. <br />Youth and Familv Assistance -Your House South. <br />Offers creative and comprehensive solutions to our community's most serious <br />problems by providing violence prevention and education, substance abuse <br />counseling, runaway and homeless youth programs, and youth and family <br />support programs. Your House South provides the only crisis shelter for <br />runaway and homeless youth in southern San Mateo County. In addition to crisis <br />shelter and services, Your House South provides a structured two -week <br />residential program for youth and their families in crisis situations. $20,000 was <br />requested to support the general program of Your House South. <br />H. <br />
