q-i4 <br />Mills- Peninsula Senior Focus (RSVP) <br />RSVP provides volunteer opportunities for people age 55 and older with a myriad <br />of experience and interests from all economic, educational, and social <br />backgrounds to serve on a regular basis in a var`ety of settings throughout their <br />communities. $3,500 was requested to support transportation costs and partial <br />insurance costs for RWC volunteers, and to support the annual RSVP Volunteer <br />Recognition event held in the spring. <br />Peninsula Volunteers - Meals on Wheels <br />Peninsula Volunteers, Inc, has served community seniors and disabled since <br />1947. The organization offers a wide range of activities and services that appeal <br />to and satisfy a broad spectrum of interests and needs. The Meals on Wheels <br />Program delivers hot meals to homebound members of the community who are <br />unable to cook for themselves. $25,000 was requested to help subsidize meals <br />for Redwood City residents who are disabled and unable to pay for the meals. <br />YOUTH <br />Bic Brothers Bic Sisters of SF and the Peninsula - Mentorina for At -Risk Youth <br />For 44 years, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Francisco and the Peninsula <br />has worked to improve the lives and futures of thousands of at -risk children. The <br />organization's major focus is on establishing mentoring relationships between <br />adult volunteers and children. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides screening, <br />orientation and training, and ongoing support and supervision for the matches. <br />$6, 000 was requested to support the mentoring program for youth in Redwood <br />City. <br />Communitv Education Center (CEC) <br />The CEC, a nonprofit (licensed child care center), multicultural preschool <br />program in Redwood City, provides a positive pre - school experience in English <br />and Spanish for primarily low- income families in the surrounding communities. <br />The program lays a foundation for children to be successful in school, <br />community, and life by nurturing children in a safe, accepting environment and <br />encouraging families and the community to take an active role in their children's <br />development. $20,000 was requested to support parent workshops, staff <br />development, and to supplement the food program. <br />El Centro de Libertad/The Freedom Center <br />The Freedom Center is a nonprofit outpatient alcohol and drug abuse treatment <br />center. It provides a safe place to begin the process of recovery from alcohol <br />and drug addiction, and relapse prevention. El Centro's S.M.A.R.T. (Students <br />Making a Responsible Transition) program is an in- school prevention education <br />program offered to youth attending either the County's court and community <br />schools or alternative programs for high -risk youth. $6,000 was requested to <br />support the S.
