The San <br />Diego event stage was filled with Mayors and <br />Councilmembers representing 9 of the 17 cities <br />throughout the county. The California Special <br />Districts Association was represented by Dale <br />Mason, Director of the Vallecito Water District and <br />member of the County Water Authority. Represent- <br />ing public safety on behalf of Sheriff Bill Kolender <br />was Undersheriff Jack Drown. San Diego Interim <br />Police Chief John Welter spoke on behalf of all city <br />police chiefs. Speakers included <br />Salinas Mayor Anna Caballero; Monterey County <br />Sheriff Mike Kanalakis; Monterey County Supervi- <br />sor Fernando Armenta; Salinas Police Chief and <br />President of Monterey County Chiefs Association; <br />Dan Ortega, Fire Chief Mike McMurry of the Scotts <br />Valley Fire Protection District and Second Vice <br />President of the Fire Districts Association. <br />Every major press outlet in the area attended <br />including television, radio and print. There were <br />four cameras including KCBA -TV35 (FOX), KION- <br />TV46 (CBS), KSMS -TV67 (Univision) and KSBW- <br />TV8 (NBC). The Californian used the event as their <br />main story, as did the Sentinel, which also included <br />a large picture above the fold.
