San Diego The press conference was convened by San Diego Mayor Dick Murphy and San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairman Greg Cox at the San Diego City Administration Building. The San Diego event stage was filled with Mayors and Councilmembers representing 9 of the 17 cities throughout the county. The California Special Districts Association was represented by Dale Mason, Director of the Vallecito Water District and member of the County Water Authority. Represent- ing public safety on behalf of Sheriff Bill Kolender was Undersheriff Jack Drown. San Diego Interim Police Chief John Welter spoke on behalf of all city police chiefs. Speaking on behalf of all city fire chiefs was San Diego Fire Chief Jeff Bowman. Covering the conference were 7 TV stations, KPBS radio, the San Diego Union Tribune and the North County Times. Every major press outlet in the area attended including television, radio and print. There were four cameras including KCBA -TV35 (FOX), KION- TV46 (CBS), KSMS -TV67 (Univision) and KSBW- TV8 (NBC). The Californian used the event as their main story, as did the Sentinel, which also included a large picture above the fold. The Monterey Herald also ran it as their top local story.
