PRESS CONFERENCES frorn page <br />TerBorch, Police Chief of Arroyo Grande and <br />President of California Police Chiefs Association; <br />Bob Putney, Fire Chief Cambria Services District <br />and Wolfgang Knabe, Fire Chief for the city of San <br />Luis Obispo. <br />The press conference was covered by the two <br />main area TV stations (KSBY - NBC affiliate, KCOY <br />- CBS affiliate) four Radio Stations, and four news- <br />papers. <br />Quotes: <br />"The city of San Luis Obispo has already had to <br />make tough choices ... The budget the City Council <br />passed this week means fewer police and <br />firefighters and cuts to other services like streets <br />and parks." —Mayor Dave Romero <br />"Almost our entire general fund money that <br />comes back goes directly to public safety... state <br />cuts could decimate my department " — Fire Chief <br />Bob Putney <br />Bakersfield <br />City, County, Special District and Public Safety <br />Staff from throughout Kern County attended the <br />LOCAL press conference held at the Bakersfield <br />Police Department. Also joining the Kern County <br />group were public safety officers from the City of <br />Hanford in Kings County, union members from SEIU <br />& CCAPE, Local 700, as well as senior citizens from <br />within the Bakersfield community who rely heavily <br />on the services at risk. The crowd of nearly 75, <br />which included more than 30 uniformed officers <br />held signs conveying "Local Services Matter ". <br />Speakers included: Mayor Harvey Hall, Bakers- <br />field. Supervisor Pete Parra -Kern County, Chuck <br />Waide- SEIUBCCAPE Local 700, Sheriff Mac <br />Wimbish -Kem County, Vice Mayor David Couch - <br />Bakersfield, Bill Miller, General Manager of the <br />North of the River Water District and President of <br />the Special Districts Association, Police Chief Eric <br />Matlock, Bakersfield, Fire Chief Ron Fraze, Bakers- <br />field. <br />Palm Springs <br />Coachella Valley elected officials, police and <br />fire chiefs packed the stage set before a Palm <br />Springs Fire Department location, where the crowd <br />of over thirty LOCAL supporters applauded, <br />cheered and waved signs. Speakers led by Palm <br />Springs Mayor Will Kleindienst vowed to defend <br />vital local services against Legislative incursions. <br />Four television stations, two radio outlets and <br />The Desert Sun all covered the vent, featuring <br />Mayor Kleindienst, Riverside County Assessor - <br />Clerk Recorder Gary Orso, Western Municipal <br />Water District representative Phil Rosentrater, <br />Assistant Sheriff L.
