—
6.1 B
Page 16
Once final attributes are determined and the collection specifica.tion is finalized, DRG will meet
with the City for a. pre-project meeting. This meeting will serve a number of purposes. The first
priority will be to determine routing of inventory arborists. With the City's assistance, we will
map out a logical sequence for moving throughout the City. In addition to determining work
sequence, we also meet to create a contact directory for our staffand yours. This will help us to
define the best person(s) on Redwood City staff to contact if the need arises. At this point, we
also give the City of Redwood City contact information for all DRG managers and field staff
assigned to this project. This will give Redwood City a point of contact at any time. At this
meeting, we also ask for any parking information or permitting information that might be
needed. It is our intent to be well prepared going into the contract so that your staff's day-to-day
duties are not interrupted by our presence in the City.
Once the project is kicked off, we invite the City of Redwood City to examine and approve of
our first days of data col(ection to look for irregularities that may occur. This type of "pilot
project" allows Redwood City to make adjustments to the coliection specification as needed once
the data is viewed live. This is in addition to our quality control that takes place on a regular
basis.
Once data collection is begun, we download it weekly into a TreeKeeper site that is accessible
by Redwood City staff. Downloading often allows you to see our progress. We atso give the
City a weekly status report so that you know what areas we are working and how much
inventory is left based on your approximate projections of 31,000 trees and vacant sites.
Tree Inventory System Software Used
The City of Redwood City wip be well served by Davey Resource Group's data collection
technology and logistical expertise. DRG currently has, and is experienced at operating, all the
equipment necessary to provide the project results that Redwood City requires. This equipmenl
includes:
■ Data Collection Equipment — DRG uses pen tablet computers for GIS field data
collection. These computers, installed with Davey's ArcPad tree collectio software
customized for the City of Redwood City's needs. The clata is then uploaded daily into
Davey's TreeKeeper 7.7. Davey typically conducts tree data collection and GIS
positioning using a combination of i-Blue global positioning system (GPS) receivers
with the ortha-rectif ed aerial photographs already provided by the City and loaded into
our WPS software. The aerial photographs have submeter resolution and the inventory
arborist utilizes the GPS receiver and aerial photograph to best determine where the data
point actually resides. This method is highly accurate and is much more efficient than
using a Trimble unit, especially in areas of heavy canopy or canyons where satellite
signal is often reduced or obstructed.
■ Tree Collection Iuterface (TC — Inventory data sets are uploaded into DRG's TCI
data management system. TCT works concurrently with DRG's ArcPad coliection system
to provide real time electronic Quality Assurance of inventory data.
After data passes quality control and assurance, it is prepared for uploading into Redwood City's
TreeKeeper 7.7 management system. DRG will provide an updated geodatabase that contains
a.n updated and corrected version of the City's street tree inventory in Califomia State Plane
Zone 3, NAD 83, Survey feet.
Prepared for City of Redwood City, California 12
Prepared by Davey Resource Group
