He questioned if
this is the best way to support economic developmerrt, which he is in favor of. He asked if
this discussion could be cleferred until after they discuss their core services as he is not
ready to move forvvard tonight on this item.
One Council Member spoke in favor of moving forvvard with this item tonight as a key
strategic initiative for the City and as a Cauncil core priority. One other Council Member
reiterated that the measurements for success are not clear, he supports economic
development, and he would like a longer discussion at some point.
Another Council Member clarified that some of the duties of this position will be funded by
the Redevelopmerrt Agency and she also agreed that Council should get input on the
expectations of what the goals, objectives, and responsibilities of this poition will be.
There was a comment by another Councif Member that this posion has been a long time
coming in support of economic development and it is a great opportunity for Redwood City
to move forward in attracting and retaining businesses.
Interim City Manager Bell clar''ied the differences between a contract and reguiar position
and why this position is being presented as a regular classification. This position would be
ongoing, unlike a contract position whict would be typically tied to and end with a specific
project. This item is for the job description which is used for identifying the duties,
knowledge, skills, and abilities, and as they develop the economic developmerrt stratgy,
this posi#ion would then have the responsibility of ineeting those goals and objectives.
Motion carried 5-1 by eleclronic vote with Vice Mayor Aguirre alant and Council
Member Bain voting no against the mofion.
6.1 Section—Motions
. .
A.
