7.1-El <br />REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />July 14, 2003 <br />Subject <br />Award of Contract — Spinas Park Play Area Renovation Project <br />Engineering File No. 1302 -02 <br />Recommendation <br />Approve the Contract Documents and award the contract for the Spinas Park Play Area <br />Renovation Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Scapes, Inc. of Half Moon Bay, <br />California, for their low bid of $511,696.02. <br />Background <br />Spinas Park is a 1.5 acre park originally constructed in the 1960's, and located at the <br />intersection of Bay Road and 2 nd Street. The existing park with deteriorated equipment <br />and picnic facilities are being heavily used by the residents. This project will extend the <br />park to cover the site that was left vacant by the relocation of Fire Station No. 12. <br />The design of the new Spinas Park Play Area Renovation Project has been on -going <br />since last summer, and is now ready for construction. Numerous meetings were held <br />with neighborhood representatives to solicit design ideas from the public. The park <br />design was done by Moore, lacofano and Goltsman (MIG), who also successfully <br />designed Stafford, Stulsaft & Maddux Parks. <br />Spinas Park will be completely renovated by furnishing and installing a new sanitary <br />sewer, storm water, & irrigation system, new prefabricated restroom structures, new <br />playground safety surfaces, construction of new concrete walkway, sand play mound <br />features, new landscaping elements, new site furnishings, planting of new plant <br />materials, new safety fence, and new playground equipment. The existing composite <br />play structure will be renovated to bring it up to current codes. <br />The new play equipment will include: <br />i Composite play structure for toddlers with fire <br />engine theme. <br />e 4 -arch swing with belt and bucket seats <br />r Seesaw bouncer <br />L Water play with 4 spray nozzles <br />2 play houses <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
