IREPORT <br /> To the Honorable MayOr and City Council <br /> From the City Manager <br />April 8,2002 <br /> <br /> Subject <br />Approval of Change Order - Main/Maple & Broadway/Hopkins Intersection <br />Improvements <br /> <br /> Recommendation <br />Approve an increase of funds in the amount of $25,000 for completing the Main/Maple & <br />Broadway/Hopkins Intersection Improvements Project. Due to unforeseen changes <br />and measured increases to various bid items, the contract value will exceed 10% of the <br />original contract amount of $347,192.55. <br /> <br /> Background <br /> On January 14, 2002, the City Council awarded the contract for the Main/Maple & <br /> Broadway/Hopkins Intersection Improvements to J JR Construction. This project <br /> removes temporary delineators and striping; installs new landscaping; installs new <br /> cobblestone medians; replaces the park and street lighting; and increases the area of <br /> the park located at Broadway and Hopkins Avenue. <br /> <br /> During construction, several changes were necessary in order to complement the <br /> improvements being built. They included the following: <br /> <br /> > installing steel drainage grates at Maple/Main $ 3,500 <br /> >' undergrounding additional overhead electrical $ 9,500 <br /> service lines to the park <br /> <br /> > adding an additional median island at Broadway/Hopkins $ 4,700 <br /> to match the other improvements <br /> <br /> Total Change Order Increases to date $17,700 <br /> <br /> All of these items enhance the improvements and improve the aesthetics of the area. <br /> <br /> Processing the contractor's Progress Payment to date indicates that final measured <br /> quantities for various items will be greater than that estimated by the designer, and will <br /> exceed staffs 10% authority to process changes. All of these bid item increases are <br /> essential in providing a quality finished project. <br /> <br /> -1- <br /> <br /> <br />
