(o -IF-2
Alternatives
There are two alternatives staff considered:
Award only the low bid amount and do not approve the additional work in FY 03-04
using available budgeted funds. Consider the unused $27,978.80 as cost savings.
Past experience has shown that there are always additional thermoplastic markings
that need to be installed beyond the list. There are no funds budgeted for traffic
calming in the approved CIP budget for 03 -04.
2. Perform the work with City Crews. City crews performing the thermoplastic work is not
an alternative at this time due to the lack of specialized equipment and workload. The
cost of purchasing the equipment and materials is greater than the cost of this contract.
The crews have other scheduled work to perform.
Fiscal Impact
Funds have been appropriated in the proposed Capital Improvement Program Gas Tax
Construction Fund budget for FY 2003 -2004 in the amount of $65,000 (on -going program).
Staff will not initiate this purchase until the City Council has formally approved the 2003-
2004 budget. Should the pending appropriation be reduced or deleted from the 2003-
2004 budget, this contract will either be reduced or not be executed. Any necessary
pavement markings will be completed by City crews and other traffic control
maintenance work will not be performed.
I 1 ,
Gordon - Mann_
Public Works Superintendent
Peter Ingram
Director, Public Works Services
l L J,
Ed Everett
City Manager
Attachments:
none
