344 <br /> dations: the 1000 lumen light at corner of Whipple and Arguello,be left as is and <br /> a new installation of 6000 lumen light be installed at the first pole on the south- <br /> east side of Whipple between Warren and Arguello; that any money left in the 1954-55 <br /> budget for lighting El Camino Real be resolutioned into a special lighting account. <br /> It is not the wish of the committee that this money be lcs t in the General Fund <br /> Account. <br /> Councilman Britschgi stated that one reason that Stafford Street should be better <br /> lighted is that they are going to build a school which will increase night traffic. <br /> Councilman Jones moved that, the committee report be accepted, seconded by Councilman <br /> Stout. City Engineer Jain discussed the lighting situation at Whipple and Arguello. <br /> Motion carried. On question of Councilman Britschgi, the Council was informed that <br /> the funds for street lighting were in the budget for the coming year. <br /> HAWES PARK SWITCH - Councilman Royer recommended, in the form of a motion, that 2.9 acres <br /> plus or minus be sold to Redwood City Elementary School District for a minimum of <br /> $30,000.00 with the following conditions: <br /> 1. City would get a lease for the maximum number of years on equivalent <br /> property at Goodwin School, the time of commencing of the lease to be <br /> decided later, the City to be permitted to use same upon their request. <br /> 2. That the school would have joint use of the #1 diamont at Hawes Park. <br /> 3. That the school would be allowed to remove the dressing room facility <br /> that is facing the playground area, with the understanding that they <br /> will erect a new facility which the City would have joint use of. <br /> L.. The City would have the right to use the play area facing Roosevelt. <br /> 5. That the City be permitted to remove the present pipe and sprinkling <br /> system presently located on the property. <br /> 6. Although not a condition, the Council should be aware of the fact, as <br /> indicated on the map, that the school may possibly build a kindergarten <br /> room in the small area near Hetch - Hetchy right of way. This is not to <br /> interfere with the joint use of the playground equipment. <br /> The money obtained from the sale of the property should be used as follows, as recom- <br /> mended by the committee: <br /> 1. Lighting of the park at the community field. <br /> 2. After this is done, the remaining funds can be used for the completion <br /> of bleachers at Hawes Park #1 (approximately $2,000.00). <br /> Mayor Herkner was informed that the school district had shown no need for the area <br /> for parking lot. Councilman Britschgi was in agreement that the moneys should be <br /> used for the bleachers and lighting of the park. Councilman Jones stated that he <br /> would go along with the recommendation providing an appraisal be secured before <br /> agreeing on the price. He was advised that an appraisal will be obtained, and the <br /> amount herein stated is to establish a minimum to be accepted by the City if the <br /> School Board acts on the proposal. After the School Board has acted, the City Clerk <br /> will be authorized to obtain an appraisal. There was discussion regarding the appio <br /> priation of the moneys derived from the sale of the park. Councilman Granger stating <br /> that the money would become revenue and should be put in the general fund and then <br /> appropriated to certain projects. Councilman Royer moved that the Council wait until <br /> the School Board acts on the proposal, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br /> CITY MANAGER REGARDING PENINSULA CELEBRATION ASSOCIATION REQUEST FOR A PERMIT TO LEASE <br /> GROUNDS FOR AUTO RACES - Letter from City Manager Rolison was read in which he stated <br /> that in checking with County authorities regarding these races ther have been no <br /> serious or unusual distutbances at locations where races have been held.
