358 <br /> crease could result in more serious accidents than have been experienced, and would in- <br /> crease the enforcement problem. <br /> Councilman Spillers moved that the City Attorney prepare the necessary resolution <br /> authorizing stop signs at all intersections excepting the present stops at Hudson, <br /> Elwood and Alameda between El Camino Real and the westerly City limits. Motion <br /> seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. • <br /> USE PERMITS. Planning Commission reported on the following use permits granted at the <br /> last meeting: <br /> 1. For Nor -Cal Auto Races - to conduct Sunday racing for 30 days <br /> beginning July 10, at the P.C.A. "Rodeo grounds, subject to <br /> approval of Police Chief. <br /> 2. Allow attachment of a 2nd unit to a house that has a non- <br /> conforming front yard at 3748 Hoover. <br /> REPORT OF COUNCILMAN JONES RE INSURANCE RENEWALS. Committee, after study and review, <br /> recommends the following: <br /> 1. The fire coverage to be $1,700,000.00 on a replacement cost basis <br /> with 90% co- insurance endorsement. Also recommended fire coverage <br /> be on a 5 -year installment plan, instead of present budget plan. <br /> Reclassification from Class 4 to Class 3 and other rate reductions <br /> has provided a return premium of *4,697.00, sufficient to pay the <br /> first year's premium and return a balance of $1,824.00. <br /> 2. Liability and property damages should be increased to $300,000 - <br /> 1,000,000.00 for liability and $100,000.00 for property damage. <br /> The maximum standard premium would be $28,700.00 with a minimum <br /> premium of *20,820.00 based on experience. From the last informa- <br /> tion available it would appear that the City will have earned pre- <br /> mium of $7,500.00 during 1954 -55. This would mean an appropriation <br /> in the 1955 -56 budget of $21,500.00, a reduction of the anticipated <br /> appropriation by $3,500.00. <br /> Councilman Spillers requested that the Traffic Committee study the possibility of a <br /> Stop Sign at Arch and Brewster. <br /> Councilman Britschgi reported that the Yacht Harbor Committee was meeting at Nipa Hut <br /> Tuesday to discuss plans and suggestions. The Committee will meet with the Park <br /> and Recreation Commission at their July 6th meeting and will be ready to bring in <br /> their recommendations. <br /> Councilman Granger requested City Manager to check into shrubbery causing a traffic haz- <br /> ard at King and Whipple. <br /> Councilman Granger commented on the appearance of Union Cemetary, stating that in his <br /> opinion cemetery was in the best condition he had ever seen. He suggested that a <br /> letter be written to the Parks Department commending them for their fine work, a <br /> copy to be sent to the State. Councilman Granger so moved, seconded by Councilman <br /> Britschgi, and carried. <br /> Councilman Royer reported the findings and recommendation of his Committee regarding the <br /> 1 <br /> proposed sale of Hawes Park No. 2 to the School District. The Committee recommends <br /> as follows: <br /> 1. 2.9 acres of Hawes Park No. 2 offered to school at appraised value <br /> with a nimum of $30,000.00 <br /> 2. City to secure lease to Goodwin School area when ready to make I/ <br /> capital improvements at $1.00 per year. <br /> 3. School to have joint use of Hawes Park No. 1 when not interfering <br /> with City. <br /> 4. City to have access to recreational facilities fronting on <br /> Roosevelt Avenue when not interfering with School. <br /> 5. City to remove pipe and sprinklers on property. <br /> 6. School to allow access to dressing rooms through Hawes #2 to <br /> Hawes #1. <br /> The School Board will meet Wednesday evening, June 22nd, at which time Mr. Spinas <br /> will present the above conditions. <br />
