During the Safety Program, <br /> the Reserves provided 550 bicycles with reflecting tape and Safety Pledge decals, <br /> also exhibited film on bicylce safety to approximately 6,500 children in 15 schools. <br /> Letter filed. <br /> COUNTY CLERK RE LIGHTING VICINITY OF COURTHOUSE. Board of Supervisors explained their will- <br /> ingness to cooperate in arranging for adequate lighting so far as the Hall of Justice <br /> is concerned, however, they are of the opinion that a change in the present lights <br /> around the existing Courthouse would not be justified due to the present temporary <br /> nature. Councilman Granger moved that letter be written accepting the suggestion and <br /> expressing the hope that the Supervisors wou]d go along with improving the lighting <br /> around the old Courthouse in the next year's budget. Motion seconded by Councilman <br /> Herkner and carried. <br /> COUNTY CLERK RE PROPOSED TRAFFIC SIGNAL, 1nD ODSIDE ROAD, MASSACHUSETTS, AND SAN CARLOS <br /> AVENUE. The Board of Supervisors are willing to go in with the City in an attempt <br /> to secure this signal and pay 25% of the cost providing the State approves the limits <br /> of Redwood City that we should take up the matter directly with the State officials. <br /> Councilman Stout moved that the City Engineer follow this suggestion and indicate <br /> that the City is willing to pay 25% of the cost. Motion seconded by Councilman <br /> Britschgi and carried. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS, COUNCILMEN AND DEPARTMENT BEADS <br /> Councilman Britschgi noted that Governor Knight had vetoed the Bill making possibb the <br /> purchase of the Butano Forest. In his opinion, we should assist Assemblyman Dolwig <br /> in his effort to put over this program. Councilman Britschgi moved that City Clerk <br /> be directed to send a telegram to Governor Knight and a copy to Assemblyman Dolwig <br /> urging the signing of the Bill. Motion seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br /> Councilman Herkner was in receipt of a letter from the Commanding Officer of the <br /> U. S. S. Catfish which visited the Port of Redwood City during the 4th of July cele- <br /> bration thanking the City Council and the residents for the wonderful hospitality <br /> during their visit. <br /> Councilman Granger reported on the Cinnabar Committee stating that work had stopped on City <br /> property but was continuing on the Oddstad property. The Committee had held their <br /> meeting and they recommended that nothing be done at this time until more information <br /> was available on the work being done on Oddstad's area. Councilman Granger then moved <br /> that the matter be held up for 30 days, seconded by Councilman Spillers, and carried. <br /> Councilman Granger commented ona note appearing in an Improvement Club Periodical regard- <br /> ing proposed branch library. He emphasized the fact that the City Council will be <br /> guided largely by the recommendation of the Library Board and the Council committee <br /> recommendation. <br /> City Engineer Jain stated that the contractor of the Bank of America had requested permis- <br /> sion to erect barrier on Winklebleck and California Streets to protect the public <br /> while building was in progress. Councilman Jones moved approval, seconded by Council- <br /> man Britschgi, it being understood that the pedestrians would be protected and would <br /> not be exposed to any extreme hazard from automobile traffic. Motion carried. <br /> Letter from Park and Recreation Commission recommending the following location for the <br /> War Memorial Building: "The area bounded by Madison Street, St. Francis Street, <br />
