401
the one back of the hospital. Mr. Jain advised the most central site would be the
one in Farm Hills, but both are eventually necessary.
Mayor Herkner stated that the Committee, in their report, is recommending that the
property in back of the hospital, which is separate and distinct from the other mat-
ter, should be purchased at once. City Mangger Rolison asked if the council desired
comparative costs. He stated that if the cost of the original site is based upon the
proposed figure of 84,500.00 per lot, and if it requires 22 lots, then there is no
choice but to accept the canyon site. Mr. Rolison stated further that complete report
including comparative costs of building and acquisition could not be completed in one
week. Motion carried.
PROPOSED ROAD IN THE CINNABAR AREA. Mr. A. F. Oddstad, Jr., in a letter to the Council,
asked permission to cut and to fill certain areas belonging to the City of Redwood City,
in order that they could more accurately determine the extent of the body of ore, th e
total amount of ore and the value of ore deposit that is on the City's property.
They felt that by pusing fill into the area that they would level out a previously
unusable area, and will give the City a larger area of flat land to be used for parking
when the site has been fully developed.
Mayor Herkner stated that the letter wasn't quite complete. They wish to put the road
around the hill and want to take some of the material out of the pit and dump it on
our property. City Engineer Jain requested that they flag -out the area to be con-
structed. Any overcast material below the road would be harmful. Mayor Herkner stated
that if this proved to be valuable ore then it will be stockpiled for City use. Coun-
cilman Granger stated that Mr. Oddstad would immediately stop whatever they were doing
and notify the City immediately if there was any valuable ore involved in the filling
and dumping of the loads. He discussed this with Mr. Lebsack who could not see any-
thing wrong in what they wanted to do im dumping fill on City Property..
City Engineer Jain stated that if the City was not satisfied when they were through
that Mr. Oddstad's company could put the fill back into the road, as it might leave
a bad scar on the hill. The road would be approximately 200' long by 50' wide.
Councilman Granger moved that the request be granted and the City Attorney to work
out a gentlemen's agreement and that Mr. Jain's recommendation be accepted. Mr. Jain
was asked to get together with the City Attorney. Motion seconded by Councilman
Jones and carried.
WEST COAST SHOWS' REQUEST FOR PERMIT, SEPTEMBER 7th to 10th INCL. The Clerk read the
letter whereby they ask for a permit to exhibit one of their carnival companies, and
they agree to pay all license costs as prescribed by ordinances and further abide by
all laws, regulations ,and customs as prevails in Redwood City.
The Clerk also read a letter from Fire Chief Lodi wherein he stated that the Fire
Department has objected to all Carnivals and Circuses coming into this community unless
they have been sponsored and under the supervision of local organizations. He objected
to the permit being issued for the following reasons:
1. The electrical equipment and tents are usually in bad shape, especially if they
have been on the road since Spring. The electrical equipment as a rule needs
repairing and is hazardous.
2. They require constant supervision while on the lot and this department does not
have the inspection force to inspect for three or four days. Other inspections
in the City and the normal course of duties keeps the department sufficiently
busy.
3. L - of cooperation and responsibility in following safety rules occurs too
often due to the nature of the business of getting the "show on the road ".
