405
property. Councilman Royer moved that the City Attorney contact George Davis,
San Francisco Water Company, to see if this property can be secured, and he was also
authorized to make negotiations if necessary. Motion seconded by Councilman Spillers
and carried.
COUNCILMAN GRANGER asked that a report from the Park Superintendent be placed on the Agenda
regarding the removal of a tree on the west side of the 600 block on El Camino Real.
Councilman Granger wants to know in the report if the State had contacted the Park
Department about removing trees. City Engineer Jain stated that he had talked to a
representative of the State who reported that they had neglected to contact the City
through an oversight. City Manager Rolison stated that the Park Superintendent had
not been aware of the removal of the tree until after it was cut down. Councilman
Granger moved that the Park Superintendent make a report to the City Council, seconded
by Councilman Spillers and carried.
COUNCILMAN GRANGER asked the Clerk if he had heard from the Friendly Acres Improvement Club
regarding the safety signs. The City Clerk replied that he had had a phone call and
that the Friendly Acres Improvement Club had three representatives ready to meet with
the Council and the Traffic Fact Finding Committee. When informed that there was to
be a Traffic Committee meeting on Friday, August 12th, Councilman Granger asked that
this matter be taken up at that time.
COUNCILMAN GRANGER brought up the subject of replacement of the present service flag. He
asked that the Council consider allowing $175 to be spent by the Committee in an effort
to secure a bronze plaque. Councilman Jones asked if the plaque was going to be placed
in the new Memorial building. Councilman Granger stated that this was not for the
Memorial Building. It was a Council project and should be on the wall in the Council
Chambers, however, this plaque will not have the names of the servicement listed.
Councilman Royer moved that the Committee be given the sum of $175 maximum, seconded
by Councilman Jones and carried.
COUNCILMAN SPILLERS brought up the subject of a driveway problem in regard to the Hidden
Auto Court on El Camino Real. Because the driveway is only fourteen feet wide, there
is a problem of entering the driveway from El Camino Real when cars are parked on
either side of the driveway. Councilman Spillers stated that the owners of Hidden
Auto Court would like to widen the driveway to 25'. They own property to take care
of the widening, however, they understood that they would have to secure the Staters
approval as it is on a highway.
Captain Faulstich stated that there is a dead driveway in front of the adjoining
restaurant with one space for a car to park between the driveway and the restaurant.
This abandoned driveway will be handled by the City Engineer's office as regulated
by sidewalk ordinance. Councilman Royer moved that the Traffic Fact Finding Commit-
tee be notified at their meeting of Friday, seconded by Councilman Spillers and
carried.
CITY ATTORNEY CURRIE requested the Council to appropriate $12,500 for property in regard
to Parking District. This would be an advance and would come out of bond money.
Councilman Granger moved that the City Attorney be authorized to take the necessary
steps, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried.
CITY ENGINEER JAIN stated that he thought the Council should be made aware of the fact
that the contractors were behind in their work on the Parking District job. To date
