The City Manager reported that the instel- <br /> lation of this pipe was recommended by the National Board of Fire Underwriters, and that <br /> funds are available in the 1951 Bond Fund. <br /> Councilman Stout moved that the recommendation of the City Manager be accepted and the <br /> low bid be awarded to U. S. Pipe and Foundry Company, seconded by Councilman Britschgi <br /> II and carried. <br /> REPORT ON BID OPENING GAS TAX PROJECT #55, BROADWAY FROM CHARTER TO 500' BEYOND CHARTER STREET. <br /> City Engineer Jain reported that the following bids were received: <br /> Williams Bros. of Decoto $ 9,493.75 <br /> Bauman Bros. of San Carlos 9,826.63 <br /> Oscar C. Holmes, Inc. of Redwood City 11,387.75 <br /> Bragato Co. of Belmont 11,706.75 <br /> City Engineer recommended that the low bid of Williams Bros. be accepted. Councilman <br /> Britschgi asked if bids could be held open for a while. City Attorney Currie stated <br /> that they could hold them up for a week..Councilman Britschgi stated that he was afraid <br /> they might lose a great deal of money if they acted too hastily.. He stated that they <br /> might lose a big industry if they were not careful. Councilman Royer suggested that <br /> they withhold action for a study meeting and bring it before the Council at the meeting <br /> of September 12th. <br /> After further discussion, Councilman Royer moved that the bids be held over to next <br /> Monday, September 12th, seconded by Councilman Britschgi. <br /> Councilman Stout asked if this would affect the State in any way. City Attorney Currie <br /> replied that it would make a difference if a change were made but that no money would <br /> be lost. Motion carried. A study meeting was set for Monday, September 12th at 4.:00 p.m. <br /> in the office of the City Manager. The City Manager was instructed to contact both the <br /> owner and the tenant of the property involved and ask them to attend the study meeting. <br /> AUTHORIZE CALL FOR CINNABAR BIDS. Councilman Granger asked that the City attorney read the <br /> notice inviting bids for lease which is as follows: <br /> "NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Redwood City will receive bids <br /> for a lease of a portion of an area owned by said city, commonly known <br /> and designated as "Stulsaft Park ", for the purpose of conducting <br /> cinnabar mining operations thereon. Said bids shall be sealed and <br /> delivered to the office of the City Manager on or before 2:00 p.m. on <br /> the 22nd day of September, 1955, and will be opened and publicly read <br /> aloud in the office of the City Manager on or about 2:00 p.m. of that <br /> day. <br /> All bids shall specify the royalty to be paid, stating whether <br /> gross or net or any combination thereof, and the bonus to paid in cash <br /> to the City of Redwood City for the execution of the lease. <br /> Bidders are hereby notified that the lease will contain, among <br /> other things, the following terms and conditions: <br /> 1. All mining operations must be conducted in accordance with <br /> good cinnabar mining practices. <br /> 2. The successful bidder will be required to restore the surface <br /> of the land to a useable level condition. <br /> 3. A faithful performance bond in the amount of $50,000 will be <br /> required. <br /> 4. Satisfactory evidence of financial responsibility, experience <br /> II and equipment available to conduct mining operations must accompany <br /> all bids. <br /> 5. Successful_ bidder must make arrangements with adjoining <br /> property owner for access to the property. Bidders are notified that <br /> access will probably be provided over adjoining property under the <br /> following conditions: <br /> (a) Construction of a temporary roadway on a <br /> route specified by the adjacent property <br /> owner. <br /> (b) Successful bidder must repair all damage <br /> to streets, curbs and gutters, and other <br /> property along any streets on property <br /> of adjacent property owners. <br />
