a s
£
CITY MANAGER REPORT REGARDING SOUTHERN PACIFIC CROSSING. Clerk read a letter that City
Manager Rolison wrote to the Southern Pacific Company in regard to the lack of progress
being made in the repair of various street crossings in accordance with a field survey
made by a representative of the Southern Pacific Company and the City Engineer's office
several months ago. In his letter of September 7, 1955, City Manager Rolison also stated
that the protective devices, particularly at the Jefferson Avenue crossing were not
being operated in the most efficient manner. Mr. Rolison asked for an immediate reply.
To date he has not received a reply to his letter. Councilman Granger moved, seconded
by Councilman Royer, that the matter be placed on the agenda for the next regular meeting,
September 26th. Motion carried.
Councilman Granger stated that a report was to be ready for this evening in regard to
rezoning of the Southern Pacific property. City Manager reported that several letters
had been written by the City Clerk and the City Attorney. On June 27, 1955, the City
Clerk wrote a letter to Mr. J. J. Jordan, Superintendent, S. P. Company, in regard to
inspection of the S. P. Company freight shed located on Perry Street between Broadway
and Brewster Avenue by representatives of the Building Inspector's office, Fire Marshal
and County Housing Sanitarian. One of the conditions noted was that the structure was
built entirely of wood and as such could not be made to comply to the No. 1 Fire Zone in
which it is located. On July 1, 1955, Fir. Jordan wrote thanking Mr. Dodge for his
letter and stated that they were arranging to have these conditions checked and will
promptly correct anything found to be hazardous. Building Inspector Kreiss reported to
the City Manager that to date nothing had been done in regard to the freight shed.
Councilman Spillers stated that the 60 days were up and the building should be posted.
Councilman Granger was of the opinion that perhaps the letters have not been going to
the proper person. The President of the Southern Pacific Company should be contacted
and made aware of the present situation.
Councilman Spillers moved that the building be posted, seconded by Councilman Britschgi.
Councilman Royer stated that they didn't want the building repaired, and the Southern
Pacific Company might want to fix the building. Councilman Spillers questioned the
Building Inspector in regard to the condition of the building. Building Inspector Kreiss
stated that the building was not in good condition and could not be fixed, After
further discussion, Councilman Stout made an amendment to the motion, a letter is to be
written to the President of the Southern Pacific Company informing him of the letter
recently written to mr. J. J. Jordan and tell him of the council's wishes in the matter.
If these are not carried out the building will be posted in 30 days. The amendment
was seconded by Councilman Granger. This was again followed by discussion after which
the Mayor pro -tem called for a roll call vote which carried,. Councilmen Britschgi and
Spillers voting "No" and Mayor S. D.
