. , ... - ,_.. , <br /> L71 51 <br /> wherein the Pacific Gas and Electric Company petitioned the City Council to consider <br /> said companylt application for a Use Permit for the construction of a new electric <br /> distribution sub - station on the southeast portion of Lot 5, Valota Park (1715 Valota <br /> Road). Councilman Spillers moved that the public hearing be set for October 10th, <br /> seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br /> REPORT COUNCILMAN GRANGER ON MEETING WITH SOUTHERN PACIFIC COMPANY ON CROSSINGS AND EXTENSION <br /> II OF FRANKLIN STREET. Councilman Granger stated that the Whipple Avenue crossing. He <br /> stated that this crossing will be fixed within the next few days. The,Engineers felt <br /> that the Jefferson Avenue crossing could be controlled similar to the one at Broadway. <br /> The main line control can not be stopped unless a control similar to the one at the <br /> Depot is installed and manned. <br /> Councilman Granger stated that the Southern Pacific Company would not consider t he <br /> Franklin Street extension unless another parking area was made available. He stated <br /> further that the Council should take the extension now and worry about the parking area <br /> later. <br /> The Freight Sheds are still under consideration and study. <br /> Councilman Stout asked if the Southern Pacific Company planned to take care of the other <br /> crossings. Councilman Granger stated that they will fix all the crossings in order of <br /> their priority, however, this will probably take two years to complete. He, Councilman <br /> Granger, stated that he asked the Southern Pacific Company to consider transferring the <br /> parking area into Butcher Field, and the Council should reconsider the Franklin Street <br /> extension. Councilman Britschgi suggested that this matter be turned over to the City <br /> Manages and the City Engineer in an effort to see where the money is going to come from <br /> ana what proceedings should be included. Councilman Granger stated that this matter <br /> should be turned over to Assistant City Attorney Lebsack as he has been in contact with <br /> the Southern ±'acific Company and was also a member of the Council Committee. Councilman <br /> Britschgi moved that the matter of Franklin Street Extension be referred to the proper <br /> authorities to bring in a report in two weeks, seconded by Councilman Jones and carried. <br /> REPORT COUNCILMAN GRANGER ON RPOPOSED MINING OPERATIONS STULSAFT PARK. Councilman - Granger <br /> stated that the committee, consisting of Councilmen Britschgi and Spillers, Assistant <br /> City Attorney Lebsack and Mayor Herkner, requested that each of the bidders send in a <br /> financial statement to the City Attorney not later than Wednesday, October 5th, so that <br /> the Committee could hold a meeting on the following night to study the bids and if <br /> necessary they will hire an outside engineer to consider the best bid for the City. <br /> REPORT FROM COUNCILMAN BRITSCHGI REGARDING THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT OF STULSAFT PARK. Council- <br /> man Britschgi stated that the Committee, appointed to check into the facts regarding the <br /> Lions Club suggestion of a Fairyland, found the facts to be as reported by the Lions Club. <br /> They felt that the Council should take four very important steps to establish this very <br /> unique affair. (1) Council should provide site for project; (2) Landscape and <br /> II prepare the ground: (3) City to maintain the grounds and keep them in order and <br /> (L) that the Council accept the recommendationof the Lions Club Committee and present <br /> at least two names each of interested people to perform along with the people who are <br /> working on this project, to form the Board of Directors. The Lions Club has had a <br /> meeting with the Park and Recreation Commission and they f elt that there must be some <br /> steps taken to develop a master plot plan of Stulsaft Park. The section of ground asked <br /> to be set aside in Stulsaft Park is from two to three acres. They do not want to divide <br />
