Councilman Granger offered introd- <br /> uction of ordinance, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried on roll call. <br /> USE PERMITS GRANTED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION: <br /> 1. Lillian Stewart to use residential structure in C -1 -F District for business <br /> of selling Indian Curios at 520 -B Arguello. <br /> 2. E. Skinner for Brake Shop at 1304 El Camino Heal in a new structure. <br /> No. action was taken by the Council on these permits. <br /> RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS, COUNCIL AND DEPARTMENT HEADS: <br /> Councilman Stout referred to the minutes of the Library Board on July llth and August 1st, <br /> wherein they asked the Council Library Committee to meet with the Board and Miss <br /> Rose Vainstein, State Library Consultant. The Board wrote to the School Board and <br /> the School Board replied that they will give consideration to any request which is <br /> received from the Library Board in regard to a branch library. It was the opinion <br /> of the Board of Education that the Library Board should select a specific site and <br /> then make a proposal to the School Board for its use by the City for library purposes. <br /> The Clerk read the letter written to the School Board by the secretary of the <br /> Library Board wherein the proposed that a branch library be established at the <br /> Roosevelt School, in an area approximately 90 feet square, facing on Euclid. <br /> Councilman Britschgi was of the opinion that this matter should be brought up before <br /> the Councilmembers and a study meeting be held with the Library Board before any- <br /> thing final is done in regard to this matter. This was followed by general discus- <br /> sion a fter w hick it was decided that this will be brought up at the Wednesday night <br /> study meeting. <br /> Councilman Britschgi stated that the block signs on the 2300 block of Roosevelt do not <br /> agree with the house numbers. This matter was turned over to the City Engineer for <br /> correction. <br /> Councilman Britschgi brought up the subject of complaints about the gravel being thrown <br /> up on the sidewalks on Beech Street. He was of the opinion that something should <br /> be done with this street, perhaps topped with oil and screened. The City Engineer <br /> replied that if this were done there were a few other streets in the same neigh- <br /> borhood which would require the same treatment. This was followed by general <br /> discussion in which Councilman Granger asked that it go on record that the Council <br /> has been made aware of the situation and that the people should be made aware that <br /> a petition should be circulated to have Beech Street fixed, seconded by Councilman <br /> Britschgi and carried. <br /> Councilman Spillers stated that both he and Councilman Royer had met with Red Morton <br /> in regard to the present situation at Hawes Park. 42,500 would dig the trenches <br /> in which to put the conduit before the lights are installed. If this is done now <br /> then everything will be ready for spring. Councilman Royer stated that there <br /> wouldn't be any holdup in the matter if the money could be authorized so that the <br /> work could be started. This brought up a discussion in regard to the price the City <br /> would have to pay for the piece of property owned by the City of San Francisco. <br /> To date the City Attorney has been unable to find out just what the cost is going <br /> g <br /> to be. After further dicussion, Councilman noyer moved that the matter be held <br />
